DRAWBACKS OF BECOMING A FREELANCER

DRAWBACKS OF BECOMING A FREELANCER

Freelancer has become a trending job recently as we can work anywhere while still having a competitive salary. To start this job, you only need a phone or a laptop and a stable Internet connection. For this reason, freelancing has become a dream job for many people, especially with the young. However, it also comes with some drawbacks besides its fantastic benefits. This blog will provide useful information for you to make a careful decision before becoming a freelancer.

Unstable income

Becoming a freelancer means that everything is in your control and your salary is also one of that. While people work 9 - 5 jobs, they are paid every month and maybe some extra when their work performance is good, freelancers often have unstable income as their salary depends on how much work they do. It follows a simple rule: The more you work, the higher salary you have. It brings a problem: What if you don’t get any job for a month? You will become jobless, with no money and can’t afford your essential needs such as: food, drinks, electricity bills….

Lack of regular benefits

Besides unstable income, you will also lack some regular benefits when you work from the office: holiday pay, health insurance, medical insurance…. Freelancing also means that you are your own boss, you have to pay for all those things. For example, you get sick and can’t do the work you apply for, you get no money and no paid leaves or when people have a day off for a national holiday, you have to work on that day and have no holidays.

Lack of stability

Freelancing is a dream job for many people because you can work from anywhere, even your home which brings comfort for you. This means that you can do whatever you like and you can decide what time to do your job. It can lead to one thing: Your work performance might not be good as you work spontaneously and don’t have a forced time to do the job you apply for. If you are sad, you can watch a movie or go out and forget what to do for your clients. It will become even worse if you don’t have time-management skills.

Lack of job security

The world is changing, harsh and not as good as before. There are many scams out there, even when you work offline, come to the office and you still cannot get your salary so it will be no surprise if you get scammed when finding work online. You might work hard, from day to night, thinking how to complete it effectively when eating, give suitable solutions for your clients and you don’t have any salary for your hard work. You deserve a high salary for what you did but in fact they didn’t pay you for that. Your family, your health, your mind.. are all affected negatively. You become depressed, your family doesn't believe in you and you don’t know what to do. Mind health is always the most important thing for a person but now you even can’t get a positive mind as you just got scammed.

Isolation

When working in a company, you can make friends, interact face-to-face with them and make good memories. When you work remotely, you may not get the same level of interaction as your colleagues. This might not be a problem for many people but for some people, especially extroverts, it can negatively affect their motivation, productivity and emotions.

Long Hours and Overwork

As the more you work, the more you get; freelancers often work as hard as possible to earn a high salary. In the beginning, you will spend a lot of time finding a job and when you get that opportunity you just work long hours to get paid. Besides, when you want to get rich quick, you will do many jobs that may not be suitable for you to complete your goals. This leads to stress, lack of balance in life and affects your health.

Final Conclusion

Freelancing has advantages and disadvantages so you need to think carefully before deciding to do this job. If you understand both the benefits and drawbacks, you can make the right decision. It may become your dream job if you can accept the risks freelancing has but it also can become a nightmare if you can’t handle the risks. Hope this blog helps you with your decision-making!
